When you visit Salagon, take the time to explore the rolling countryside of Pays de Forcalquier and the Luberon.
Mane is a listed village and "cité de caractère". Come and see the treasures and architectural vestiges of its long history, Concentrate on the outskirts of the village first: explore the dry stone huts or "bories" and the Roman bridge used by pilgrims on their way to Salagon. Next, wander around the streets of Mane up to the citadel (not open to visitors). Underfoot, notice the "calades" (stone road surfaces). On your way, you will see a multitude of façades, antique doors, fountains and pontoons, most of which date from the Middle Ages.
If you love flavours and scents, you'll be in your element in Mane and the surrounding area. After Salagon, continue to wow your senses at the Florame Essential Oils Institute a few metres from the museum, or the European University of Flavours and Scents at Forcalquier. Make time during your trip to visit the L’Occitane en Provence factory. This leading cosmetics company is headquartered in Manosque. The area has almost limitless possibilities for those interested in scents and flavours. Many small businesses and manufacturers are delighted to welcome anyone interested in finding out more about their work. So why not meet them on the flavours and scents trail.
Mane and Forcalquier are a fabulous base for a wide range of sports to enjoy all year round: skiing, snowshoe walks, mountain biking, hiking and horse riding. And of course, whichever sport you pick, the setting will be stunning: Lure Mountain, Mourres Rocks, Oppedette Gorge or the Roussillon Ocre path, to name but a few. If you're a fan of air sports, why not take in the countryside from a paraglider or hot air balloon?
There is a plethora of history and art in the Salagon area, and every site is worthy of your time. At Mane, Sauvan château is, like Salagon, a listed historic monument and remarkable garden. It is known as the Petit Trianon of Provence. Nearby Saint-Maime is home to the Haute-Provence museum of mining and miners. Dauphin village, with its two churches, is also close by. Today as in the past, Pays de Forcalquier provides inspiration to the numerous local artists. When you visit the area, you cannot fail to notice the vibrant art scene.
Mane and Forcalquier offer a wide range of places to eat and stay to suit all budgets.
