Salagon: visiting solo or as a family

Salagon is a unique place to visit, with a historic priory, museum and gardens on a single site.

Whether you visit as a family, as a couple or with friends, Salagon is a multi-faceted site with the perfect activity for every mood: discover the heritage, take in a dose of culture or stroll in the gardens.

The site is open from 1 February to 15 December. With your entry ticket, you can visit the priory, the museum exhibition halls and the four themed gardens.

During your non-guided visit to Salagon, you will see

- The priory - Romanesque church, Renaissance residence and outbuildings. You will learn about the various lives of this building, successively a Gallo-Roman villa, necropolis, priory and farm.

- The museum details and showcases the culture of Haute-Provence past and present. As well as recounting the history of rural life, the collection includes photographs and contemporary works. The temporary exhibitions change annually.

- The gardens are a fragrant, aromatic journey through all the different uses for plants, in cookery, medicine, craft and even magic. Stroll among the 1,700 plant species growing in the medieval garden, popular garden, fragrance garden and modern garden.

- Services: book and souvenir shop, plant shop, drink and snack vending machines and picnic tables.

Visitors with disabilities

Parts of the paths to the gardens are accessible for people with reduced mobility. The calade courtyard and the interior of the priory are not.
The Salagon through the ages exhibition includes models of the priory which are accessible for blind and visually impaired visitors (on request).

Services offered by the staff team

The museum learning department organises numerous workshops throughout the year:

For adults: gardening courses, nature walks, workshops, lectures, etc.
For children: workshops are organised for children during the Easter and summer holidays and at Christmas (ages 6 and up).
For adults and children: certain children's workshops, concerts.

Practical information

The site is open from 1 February to 15 December.
The museum is closed on Tuesdays from 1 October to 30 April except during school holidays zone B (Academy of Aix-Marseille).
